No One Will Save You (Review)

Alien invasion movies seem to be unique to come by nowadays...well, good ones at least. The A Quiet Place films seem to capture a quite terrifying vibe to immerse audiences into a post-apocalyptic type world but with a new form of aliens. Then, there is this film that gives homage to films such as Signs but with it's own twist. From writer/director Brian Duffield (Spontaneous) comes No One Will Save You.

In the film, Brynn Adams (Kaitlyn Dever) finds solace within the walls of the home where she grew up until she's awakened one night by strange noises from unearthly intruders.

The first thing I want to address is the outstanding direction this film has. Brian Duffield brings a great vision to a story written also by him and his script for the most part is pretty effective. What he does such a great job at is building a solid amount of dread in his atmosphere he is establishing. Brynn is a character of very little words and he has to bring out a lot of emotion from her because of this and he does a solid job with it. The camera angles and lighting are great and that comes from the cinematographer Aaron Morton. I also am a big sucker for well lit moon light shots and this film has plenty of that to offer.

Moving further into direction - I like that Duffield kept the classic alien design that we know and believe along with UFO's. It is something that the audience is able to relate to because of what we already believe aliens to look like - so that was a wise creative choice on his end.

Brynn is really the only character we can relate to in this movie. While again, she has very minimal dialogue, she is pretty rad for a character that seems would not have much of a fight in her. She is able to create quite an alien body count and that was something that was great to see but one of the flaws is I wish we got a little more explanation to her.

As much as I liked the alien design being classic - one of my other gripes with the film is that some of the CGI just did not work for me with the creatures. It works well for the most part but I believe there could have been a little more work done in certain areas. The same thing goes with some of the UFO shots that we get.

In the end, No One Will Save You offers a great fall time film. The movie has some chilling elements to it, especially when we get the first reveal of the alien in Brynn's house - it will sink you into your seat. The suspenseful moments work well and in it's nice paced runtime it will give you all the thrills you need. If you are looking for heavy characterization - you won't really get that here but the movie does what it needs to in order to provide one of the best alien invasion movies to date. Check this one out if you can.
